Immunity

Hepatitis B Surface Antibodies Learn More

The hepatitis B surface antibody test (HBsAb) detects proteins called antibodies that are produced by the immune system in response to the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The test is used to determine if you are immune to the virus after natural exposure or vaccination. A positive HBsAg test result means that you are infected and can spread the hepatitis B virus to others through your blood. anti-HBs or HBsAb (Hepatitis B surface antibody) - A "positive" or "reactive" anti-HBs (or HBsAb) test result indicates that a person is protected against the hepatitis B virus.

Rubella IgG Learn More

A rubella blood test detects antibodies that are made by the immune system to help kill the rubella virus. These antibodies remain in the bloodstream for years. The presence of certain antibodies means a recent infection, a past infection, or that you have been vaccinated against the disease. Antibodies are proteins your immune system makes to help fight infections and keep you from getting sick. They're targeted to specific germs, viruses, and other invaders. Your doctor can tell a lot from the type of antibodies that you have in your blood.

Measles IgG Learn More

A positive result on an IgM antibody test means you have a measles or mumps infection now or you had a recent infection. A positive result on an IgG antibody test means you are immune to measles or mumps because you had a vaccination or past infection. The presence of detectable IgG-class antibodies indicates prior exposure to the measles virus through infection or immunization. Individuals testing positive are considered immune to measles infection.

Varicella Zoster IgG Learn More

A single serologic IgG test can be used to determine if a person has antibodies to VZV from past varicella disease or who may be candidates for varicella-zoster immune globulin (VZIG). This test looks for antibodies in your blood that your body makes against the varicella-zoster virus. The varicella-zoster virus is very contagious. It can cause 2 health problems: chickenpox and shingles. When you become infected with the virus for the first time, it causes chickenpox.

Mumps IgG Learn More

The presence of mumps-specific IgG indicates a recent or a prior exposure to mumps virus or mumps vaccine. Serologic tests cannot differentiate between an exposure to vaccine and an exposure to wild-type mumps virus. See question regarding utility of viral specimen for genetic analysis.

About this test and how it can help you

Our Occupational Immunity Blood Test will tell you whether you are immune to the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the hepatitis B virus (HBV), measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). The presence of antibodies can indicate that you have recovered from an infection, or you are successfully vaccinated. Chickenpox and shingles are both caused by VZV. Some groups of people are at higher risk of complications if they become infected with VZV, including pregnant women and people who have weakened immune systems. Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by HBV which spreads through contact with blood or other body fluids from an infected person.

This test looks for hepatitis B surface antibodies (anti-HBs) in the blood. Measles, mumps, and rubella are highly infectious conditions that can have serious health complications. Measles and mumps are contagious viral infections transmitted through respiratory secretions or saliva (with mumps only). Rubella is a viral infection that causes a fine red rash and flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell.
