Infection

Hep B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) Learn More

HBsAg assays are routinely used to diagnose suspected HBV infection and monitor the status of infected individuals to determine whether the infection has resolved or the patient has become a chronic carrier of the virus. HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) - A "positive" or "reactive" HBsAg test result means that the person is infected with hepatitis B. This test can detect the actual presence of the hepatitis B virus (called the "surface antigen") in your blood.

Immunity

Hep B Surface Antibody (anti-HBs) Learn More

Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs): The presence of anti-HBs is generally interpreted as indicating recovery and immunity from hepatitis B virus infection. Anti-HBs also develops in a person who has been successfully vaccinated against hepatitis B. anti-HBs or HBsAb (Hepatitis B surface antibody) - A "positive" or "reactive" anti-HBs (or HBsAb) test result indicates that a person is protected against the hepatitis B virus. This protection can be the result of receiving the hepatitis B vaccine or successfully recovering from a past hepatitis B infection.

Rubella IgG Learn More

A rubella blood test detects antibodies that are made by the immune system to help kill the rubella virus. These antibodies remain in the bloodstream for years. The presence of certain antibodies means a recent infection, a past infection, or that you have been vaccinated against the disease. Antibodies are proteins your immune system makes to help fight infections and keep you from getting sick. They're targeted to specific germs, viruses, and other invaders. Your doctor can tell a lot from the type of antibodies that you have in your blood.

Measles IgG Learn More

A positive result on an IgM antibody test means you have a measles or mumps infection now or you had a recent infection. A positive result on an IgG antibody test means you are immune to measles or mumps because you had a vaccination or past infection. The presence of detectable IgG-class antibodies indicates prior exposure to the measles virus through infection or immunization. Individuals testing positive are considered immune to measles infection.

Varicella IgG Learn More

A single serologic IgG test can be used to determine if a person has antibodies to VZV from past varicella disease or who may be candidates for varicella-zoster immune globulin (VZIG). (The product available in the U.S. is VariZIG). A positive IgG ELISA result indicates that a person has antibodies to VZV either from past varicella disease or vaccination. This test cannot distinguish whether the antibodies were from a past episode of varicella or vaccination.

Mumps IgG Learn More

The presence of mumps-specific IgG indicates a recent or a prior exposure to mumps virus or mumps vaccine. Serologic tests cannot differentiate between an exposure to vaccine and an exposure to wild-type mumps virus. See question regarding utility of viral specimen for genetic analysis.

About this test and how it can help you

Hepatitis B is an infection that is caused by the hepatitis B virus. This virus attacks and targets the liver which can result in both acute and chronic disease. Infection can be potentially life-threatening as damage to the liver caused by the virus accumulates leading to scarring and cirrhosis (a process in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with fibrosis scar tissue with impaired function).

The Hepatitis B Surface Antibody tests whether you have immunity to Hepatitis B. The Measles, or Rubeola, Mumps and Rubella tests check whether you have immunity to those respective diseases.

This test is the best way to confirm immunity to these diseases. The Hepatitis B Surface Antibody tests whether you have immunity to Hepatitis B. The Measles or Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella tests check whether you have immunity to those respective diseases.
