£ 39.99

A quick and easy way to test your blood for the presence of the Hepatitis B virus.

Hepatitis B

Tests Included

The surface of hepatitis B virus is coated in small proteins known as antigens. This test measures the level of hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg) present within the blood. If the test is positive for HBsAg it can that the individual is infected with the hepatitis B virus. In patients that have already been diagnosed with hepatitis B, it can also be used to monitor whether the infection is in an active or chronic stage. During an active infection there is a greater risk of spreading the virus and infecting others.

About this test

Hepatitis B is an infection that is caused by the hepatitis B virus. This virus attacks and targets the liver which can result in both acute and chronic disease. Infection can be potentially life-threatening as damage to the liver caused by the virus accumulates leading to scarring and cirrhosis (a process in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with fibrosis scar tissue with impaired function). These individuals are placed at a high risk of death due to liver failure or liver cancer.

The hepatitis B virus (HBV) may be passed on from an individual that is infected with the virus to others through unprotected sex. Exposure may also occur when sharing used and contaminated needles as hepatitis B can be transmitted through blood to blood contact.

This test is perfect if:

  • You are concerned you have been exposed to the hepatitis B virus
  • You have had intimate contact with an individual either suspected to have or positive for hepatitis B
  • You are in search for an early diagnosis which can help reduce the risks of transmitting the virus to other individuals and get you started on treatment sooner

The surface of the HBV is coated in proteins known as antigens. Detection of these antigens is indicative of a positive hepatitis B infection. Our Hepatitis B tracker is able to detect these antigens from anywhere between 1 to 8 weeks following HBV exposure.

We take the upmost care in ensuring we deliver reliable and accurate results. Therefore, to ensure this, if a blood sample is found to be positive for hepatitis B, the patient should purchase a second blood test to confirm the overall result.
